The Story of Mary’s Hymn
Mary’s Hymn was written in a nursing home in 2010…
I was asked by a priest to play something for Our Blessed Mother. I told him I couldn’t play well — and he said, “Play anyway.” What came through that moment became Mary’s Hymn.
Over the years, while visiting the elderly, and those nearing the end of life, I have witnessed something extraordinary: those who are frightened or suffering often find peace while listening. Sacred music brings familiarity, safety, and calm.
Mary’s Hymn has become a quiet companion for seniors and their family.
RITA C.A.R.E.S. offers one-on-one music ministry visits for individuals and families in:
• hospitals and ICU settings
• elder care and nursing homes
• assisted living residences
• private home visits
Music may be sung or played, depending on the setting and the individual’s needs.
